A ZingingStrings.com Article. Learn to play any instrument instantly! Not going to do it. Nope not going to do it. I can't stress enough the old adage, "If it seems to good to be true it probably is". However you CAN learn to play music. What does it take? First of all it takes desire. Second it takes dedication and with dedication comes practice and that is all it takes. Do you have to take lessons to learn to play? Not necessarily. When you take music lessons your teacher gives you homework. You take those lessons home and PRACTICE. A most important aspect in learning to play a instrument is learning the manual dexterity. You can learn chords in an hour and we can teach you where to put your fingers but only through practice will your fingers automatically form the shape of the notes/chords. The same goes for scales. You must also practice to get both of your hands working together. Now you know why it is impossible to learn to play in seven days. One mistake beginners often make is their selection of instrument. Beginners often go into a music store and buy the cheapest instrument they can get. By doing this you are setting yourself up to fail. Lets take guitars for example. Most people will buy a cheap acoustic guitar. A cheap acoustic may not hold its tune and the action may be bad. Action is a term for how a guitar is set up. If the strings are set high above the fret board it will take massive amounts of pressure to fret the notes. (Pushing the string down hard enough to make the note ring clearly.) This will make your fingers sore and make your hand painful. A instrument like this I call a closet guitar. It ends up in your closet because it never sounded good and it made your hand hurt. Another mistake beginners often make is not warming up. Not warming up before physical exercise can cause all sorts of muscle problems. The same can be said about not warming up before playing your instrument. You can learn to play
an instrument.
Happy Playing!
